Trading System Performance for The Market Engineer Trading System

When trading a system it’s always a good idea to keep a good trading journal. Some people use a journal to determine what they did wrong. We keep a journal to match our system with actual performance. Today we will talk about our trading system performance for August 2014. The two memberships we will talk about are the Gold Trading System and the 401K Trading System.

First we will talk about the trades that were made during the month of August then we will talk about the trading system performance.

 TRADES

We track our accounts day by day against the back test results. If you do this and find big variance then there is a problem. The back test accounts for market gaps so the only variance would be the market entry or market exit.

In the month of August we switched to the Gold Trading System. It was in testing now it is live.

The trades made were the following:

  • 8/4 – sold short Silver ETF(slv) using the symbol DSLV (3 x Reverse leverage ETF)
  • 8/18- bought Nasdaq ETF (QQQ) using the symbol TQQQ (3 X Leverage ETF)
  • 8/19- bought AAPL Stock
  • 8/19- sold short Silver ETF (slv) added to current position
  • 8/20- bought more AAPL Stock added to current position
  • 8/25- bought more AAPL Stock added to current position

August was and average month for trade volume. There were six total trades in the Gold Trading System.

Trading System Performance

 Gold Trading System

In the month of August we switched systems mid month to the Gold Membership. In the tracking account we started the month with $16000. At the close on 8/29 this account had $17700. That is a 10.63% increase for the month of August.

 401K Trading System

For the 401k system we did not start tracking until 8/21. The tracking account had $21930. At the end of the month the account had $22338. That is a gain of 1.77% for the 6 days tracked.

CONCLUSION

If you look at August it was a very good month for the Gold and 401K systems. As we all know past performance does not always represent future performance. Next month could be the same amount in the opposite direction.

For the year the Gold System is showing a 47% gain on the year.

Currently our trades in TQQQ and DSLV are doing well for us. The DSLV position is past the profit point so unless we get a major gap then we should profit on that symbol.

Our trading system is a trend trading system.
